Slight Teaser for Proveoke the Darkness.

So, I told a friend of mine that if he kept his grades up in school/university that I would continue to do some teasers for my novel Provoke the Darkness. And even though I really haven't done any teasers, his semester is just about over, and he has kept up his part of the deal. I must keep my part as well, so in the next little while, I'm going to have some teasers of my novel up on the blog and facebook page.

But before we get to the short teaser, I would just like to share the cover once more, because let's be honest, who wouldn't want to stare at this man all day?!

It's like I've spent my whole life with blinders on, not really being able to see what was happening around me. It tears me apart even more just thinking about it, knowing that if I had just opened my eyes to what is actually out there, I could have been able to help her. Him. Everyone else who have fallen to this monster.
"It all stops now," I whisper, angrily to myself. They've taken the two people in this world that I cannot live without. That I will not live without.
Closing my eyes, I feel the life of everything around me. I concentrate on an image of Matilda, picturing her standing here in front of me. The air rushes around me, pulling the life down from the trees and up from the grass.
"My god, Ethan," Maria yells from a distance. "You need to stop or you're going to kill yourself!" I can hear her panting as she runs towards me, screaming. I'm too far gone, I can no longer comprehend what she is saying. There's no turning back now.

AMoF!!!

On my blog today, I bring to you the wonder Rachel Walter with a quick interview as well as a review for her newest novel A Message of Flowers. This post will also be my reveal of the new cover to her novel, if you haven't already witnessed it on one of the other blogs that are on this tour of hers. So, to start things off, I believe that we will do up the interview that I had with Rachel Walter.

  • Christopher Chapman

I'm here with Rachel Walter, Author of True Connection, and now A Message of Flowers. Hello Rachel, how are you doing this evening?
  • Rachel Walter

Not too bad, Chris. Thanks for having me!
  • Christopher Chapman

So, you've recently released your second novel recently. How do you feel about this?
    Ignore the second recently...
  • Rachel Walter

Like with the first release, it's a bit like a dream.
    Christopher Chapman

And with this new Novel, A Message of Flowers, will it be a solo novel or will it be the beginning of a series?
  • Rachel Walter

It is a series. When I started writing AMoF, I only intended it to be a standalone. But by the time I had finished, I knew a few characters needed their story.
  • Christopher Chapman

Understandable. Now what was the hardest part about writing this story?
  • Rachel Walter

Emotionally, it was a scene where Georgina goes to Corbin's house, his dream house. A fixer-upper of a farm. Minus the greenhouse and the main house details, I based it off of my grandpa's farm. That scene brought back a lot of memories from my childhood. I loved it there. The, um.... The "bedroom" scenes, made me very uncomfortable to write. It was very much outside of my comfort zone.

  • Christopher Chapman

Well, I must say that one would have ever guessed that the 'bedroom' scene was out of your comfort zone. It was very well written.
  • Rachel Walter

    Thank you. Lol.
  • Christopher Chapman

Now with A Message of Flowers, or AMoF as you put it, how were the comma's this time around. Knowing first hand that the comma's gave you hell with your first novel.
  • Rachel Walter

Ouiy. My friend the comma. I'm honestly getting better with them, but sometimes I still catch myself tossing them about like I'm throwing candy at parade-goers. I'm not perfect but I am trying.
  • Christopher Chapman

Glad to hear that there is improvement. As a writer, there are several rules to follow. Are you a rule breaker? And if so, which rules do you break?
  • Rachel Walter

Since I'm not positive what all the rules actually are, I'm willing to bet I break a few.
  • Christopher Chapman

    The rules of proper grammar.
Do you let them slide as your writing, and go back to fix them while you edit, or are you strictly straight on point with things?
  • Rachel Walter

In dialog, no, I do not follow that rule. My characters drop g's sometimes, say things like, "y'inz ready?" "I wanna leave." "I'm gonna kick his ass." And so on. As the MC thinks, it tends to be more proper. Sometimes I filter some out or tone it down, because personally I feel it's too much slang or something becomes annoying to me.
  • Christopher Chapman

With the release of the paperback version of AMoF, why the cover change?
  • Rachel Walter

The original cover is an image I hold dear to my heart. I LOVE that cover. But it was made before I was finished writing, before I knew for sure there would be a series stemming from it. I couldn't manipulate the original to say the things it needed to say or figure out how to make it a full wrap (paperback) design without messing it up. I'm no cover designer. I let that up to professionals.
  • Christopher Chapman

I must say that this new cover is spectacular!
What can we see next from you, Rachel?
  • Rachel Walter

Thanks! Regina Wamba did a breathtaking job on it!
  • Rachel Walter

In a few months, hopefully, Soul Promise (The Soul Mates Series) book two - should be done. It's the next installment after True Connection. It picks up right where book ends, but in Henry's point of view. After that, is Pucked. Pucked is a Young Adult Contemporary novel... If you can't guess from the title, hockey will be involved in this one

  • Christopher Chapman

It seems that you have a lot on your plate at the moment. With the cover reveal and blog tour for AMoF, and two novels on the go, how do you keep yourself from going insane?
  • Rachel Walter

LISTS. Lol. Seriously, I like having things to do. It can get overwhelming from time to time, but honestly if I had less on my plate, I think I'd go batty then.
    Christopher Chapman

    Okay one last question, Rachel.
    Rachel Walter

    Hit me with it

    Christopher Chapman

    Can you explain 'Duck Farts'?
    Rachel Walter
  • HAHAHA! It's a shot. I'm thinking it's one that "it tastes better when that bartender makes it" vs "I think I need to look that one up" type of bartender. And your tastes of course. I didn't care for it, at all. (Sibling tricks explains that experience.)

    Christopher Chapman

Rachel, it's been a pleasure. I wish you the best of luck with all of your writing.
Thank you, for taking the time out of your schedule to sit with me and answer a few of my questions
  • Rachel Walter
Thank you for having me Chris! Wasn't a trouble anytime!

Author Bio
Rachel lives in Central Pennsylvania, is a stay at home mom, and has a wonderful husband, total of 4 kids, 3 of which are step kids. She’s a true Pittsburgh Penguins and Steelers fan. She’s an insomniac that loves coffee, Johnny Depp movies and bonfires, dislikes driving on the interstate, bugs of any kind, and a too quiet house. When she’s not playing with the people inside her head, making her family think she belongs in the loony bin or writing, she enjoys spending time with her family, finding new music, new books, helping someone or plotting something equally crazy with her Critique Partners. Be sure to check out her debut YA Paranormal True Connection.

I was so excited when Rachel had finished writing AMoF, not only because she would stop tormenting me with teasers, but because I couldn't wait to read it! I automatically fell in love with several of the characters. They're like people you interact with daily, people that you sort of cannot live without. That's what Rachel's characters were for me, people I couldn't live without!
The storyline was well thought out, and catching. This novel is definitely a page turner. I know I had problems turning away from the words on this novel, I would say put the novel down, but I was actually reading from the kindle on the computer. It's the type of story that you end up reading and predict things early on, but Rachel keeps you guessing with all the curve balls that she throws in there.
This will for sure be a book that is on the top of my recommended books for people who enjoy the romance genre, which isn't normally for me but with Rachel being my Critique Partner I felt an obligation to read it and I'm glad I did, because I fell in love with this novel!

Excerpt:

''Can I get you anything?'' I asked him, while taking all the empty plastic glasses off the counter.
''A smile. Give me that and you’ll get the biggest tip tonight.'' The slow seductive tone rolling off his shapely lips told me he wasn’t just fooling around. His green eyes were staring at me like I was dessert. This guy was hot and he knew it. The way his tousled light brown hair went every which way, hanging down onto his forehead, told me right away he didn’t care about his looks. He didn’t have to.
He wanted a smile? I shook my head. ''You don’t want a drink? Just water, maybe?''
''No, just a smile. You're the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen and it's just a smile I want.'' He brushed his hand through his hair, making it even more distressed.
I knew I was blushing and biting my lips in embarrassment. His eyes refused to stray from mine, pinning me in place. I smiled, but not because he asked.  No, this was solely because this very random man had pulled one out of me on his own. I saw the humor in his eyes. He slid fifty bucks out of his pocket and onto the counter. ''Thank you, Princess. You just made my night.''
He got up and walked away. I could see the hint of tattoos peeking out of his neckline and rolled up sleeves, but I was too astonished to call after him or say anything. He was wearing simple black converse, washed out jeans and a black long sleeve henley. There was something about him - mysterious and inscrutable. If he wanted to get my attention, well - he got it.
Who the hell was that? I kept asking myself as he walked away. I knew he was the guy Tyler had been excited to see, but I had never seen him around here before. I knew I would have remembered that piece of man candy.
He didn't give me his name and I didn't give him mine. Not that he had to ask - I had a name tag with my name on it. It was the strangest thing that ever happened to me. My eyes remained trained on him until he opened the door of the club and left. I found myself still watching the door, even after it was closed, like I wanted to chase after him – which was insane. I shook my head, willing myself to move on.
I began wiping the counter, pausing to watch Val entertain her groupies at the station next to me. As I turned to grab more lemons, my eyes were drawn again to the door. Tristan walked in with few of his friends. I had never seen Tristan here before and even after our dinner date tonight, I still didn’t expect it. I couldn’t tell if I was excited by the surprise visit or nervous about it. I felt like he was parading a bunch of his buddies around my bedroom, looking through all my dirty laundry. This was my home away from home and I wasn’t sure if I was ready to let him in—yet. Not to mention I was still shaken up from Mr. Mysterious.

And now the cover! Truly a beautiful cover!

Rachel Walter

I've personally had the opportunity to talk to this author and become good friends with her. She's been a very big help with everything that I've thrown at her, being my critique partner and everything. I would send her an email in the dead of the night and get a completely ridiculous reply that made complete sense. She's always had an answer for any question that I've had about writing or about the way something sounds.

Her writing style  completely blew me away. When I found out that True Connection was her first book, I literally fell out of my chair. The way she uses her words, and constructs her sentences, I would have thought that she's been writing for years now. I was floored! I guess some of us really have the ability to have great writing skills without needing to hone them, I can see Rachel hitting the New York Times Bestsellers list and going far with her writing.

Now a little bit more about the wonderful Rachel Walter

Rachel looks forward to hearing from and interacting with her fans and readers.

Legend of the Dreamer

I don't know what it is about these books, but I'm reading them over and over again. It could be that they are beautifully written. The poetry of Davids words are extremely captivating, and will pull you into a new world that you never knew existed. It could be that David leaves you wanting more, not just at the end of each chapter, but at the end of each page. Light of the Moon is a real page turner, and it's been a while since I found a book that could hold my attention as well as this book here. I never had the chance to get The Witch's Curse and The Warrior's Code, but that was only because I don't believe in the whole kindle. It doesn't mean that I didn't go out and buy a e-device, because I did and it turned out to be the wrong one. So I went against the one thing that I truly believe in just so I could read David's stories. Thankfully he put those two and a new story in paperback version titled Shades of the Stars.
Now I sit here patiently waiting for Shadow of the Sun to be released, so I can finally rest easy to see what David has done with the characters I have grown to love. And because I want to know if someone makes an appearance in this novel. David knows who I'm talking about, but I will not mention their name.
The Legend of the Dreamer series is a duet of books about a boy, a girl, and a dark curse that binds them both to a dangerous destiny. There is kissing and blood and secrets. There are twists on ancient Greek dream mythology and on the constellations above. The series is best read in the order of publication. The first book in the series, LIGHT OF THE MOON, was released on November 6, 2012. An e-format short story called THE WITCH'S CURSE was released on December 18, 2012. Another short story called THE WARRIOR'S CODE will be out in e-format in early 2013, and the sequel, SHADOW OF THE SUN, will be out early in 2014.

But before we get into this series let us get to know the author a little better. If you do not already follow/stalk him on facebook and twitter, I personally believe that you should.
You can also follow his blog, which also let's you know what he's been up to, what books he enjoys reading and when to expect more novels from him.

David James writes books about stars and kisses and curses. He is the author of the YA novel, Light of the Moon, the first book in the Legend of the Dreamer duet, as well as the companion novellas, The Witch's Curse and The Warrior's Code. A Legend of the Dreamer anthology, Shades of the Stars, was released July 2013, and includes the exclusive novella, The Enchanter's Fire. The final book in the duet, Shadow of the Sun, will be released in late 2013. Living in Michigan, David is addicted to coffee, gummy things, and sarcastic comments. He enjoys bad movies, goofy moments, and shivery nights.

LIGHT OF THE MOON (Book 1)
"One night long ago, a constellation disappeared and fell from the sky in the form of a boy. Secrets are being kept in the sleepy town of Lakewood Hollow, Colorado. Nothing but pools of blood and dripping words are left where bodies once were, and no one but Calum Wade seems to be worried. Life unfolds in shades of red for Calum, until a mysterious girl named Kate Black enrolls at his school and everything changes. Suddenly a dangerous world of dream demons, elemental enchanters, and blood witches unfurls before Calum. He learns that the stars have forever held his destiny, and that the constellations above are much more than what they seem. As Kate and Calum sink deep into a paranormal war, they realize that an ancient prophecy might hold the answers they seek. But life is not so easy for Calum, and he can feel his heart beat faster whenever Kate is close. Worse, Kate's blood holds a dark secret even more dangerous than the war between the demons and enchanters. Soon the two find that there are worse things than loving someone you shouldn't. For Calum and Kate, even love and the fiery power of stars may not be enough to break a curse as dark as the blood that binds their destiny."

                                                       THE WITCH'S CURSE (Book 1.1)

"Before Kate met Calum in LIGHT OF THE MOON, Magda met Samuel.

Magda cannot stop her heart from running rampant with the beating drum of love. Whenever her eyes find Samuel, she can feel the pull of strings so vividly alive against her heart. But for Magda, love goes against fate; her destiny as a witch forbids her to need anything but the dark binds of magic. Soon, the witch's curse begins to call to Magda. To deny her love for Samuel would be unthinkable, but to defy her destiny would be impossible. Before the curse can consume her, Magda must decide between Samuel and destiny, and her heart may beat too savagely for anyone to stop.

THE WITCH'S CURSE is an e-format prequel short story in the Legend of the Dreamer series."

THE WARRIOR'S CODE (Book 1.2)
"Live by the Code. Die by the Code.

In the magical world of the Order, Warriors fight for justice, freedom, and peace. Becoming a Warrior is an honor given to few, and twelve-year-olds Zackery Solts and Kate Black will do anything to have a place among the elite.

Zack and Kate must complete against eighteen others and pass three deadly tests of courage and skill. Above all, they must be strong because while the dangers of the tests are unknown, one thing is perfectly clear: not everyone will survive.

THE WARRIOR'S CODE is an e-format prequel short story in the Legend of the Dreamer series."

SHADES OF THE STARS (Book 1.5)

SHADES OF THE STARS is a Legend of the Dreamer paperback anthology. Including THE WARRIOR'S CODE, THE WITCH'S CURSE, and an exclusive story called THE ENCHANTER'S FIRE, this collection features playlists, essays on the Order, exclusive interviews, secrets, and a special look at SHADOW OF THE SUN. This edition also includes an exclusive teaser at author Helen Boswell's MYTHOLOGY: THE WICKED.

Available in paperback and Kindle formats.

SHADOW OF THE SUN (BOOK 2) Being release early 2014.

"Destined for love, Calum and Kate will do anything to be together. With Kate trapped by a curse in Ashfall, Calum must find a way to save her before she is lost to dark magic. Before she is lost to him and the truth of their love is gone forever. Even if it means sacrificing himself, Calum will choose to keep Kate safe.
A Warrior for the Order, Zack prides himself on being stoic and strong. As a Warrior, he never cries and never hurts. He does not love. But underneath Zack’s Warrior heart, love beats true. And when he finds someone who will finally catch him, Zack finds himself choosing to fall even if true love kills him.
Though the heart never lies, everyone has a little darkness in them, and soon shadows begin to rise against the light. As deadly magic consumes their world, love may not be enough to save them all. Because even though sometimes being brave just means falling in love, one choice can destroy everything. This time, no heart is safe."
